Realizing that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state is inevitable, the zionist regime is trying to establish one on its own terms. A report published in the Israeli paper, Haaretz, on March 5 about a document sent by the US to the Palestinian Authority states “the United States government has committed to playing a role in indirect talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, and promised that if the talks were to fail, the US will assign blame and take action.” This proposal is a pre-planned move to the backing by the Arab League of indirect talks between Fatah and the zionist regime. In reality however, it is an initial step towards sketching out the foundations, as Benjamin Netanyahu put it in 2003, of “a limited Palestinian state.”
Even though the US has been “mediating” between the zionist regime and Fatah for several decades to work out a “two state solution”, it has yielded no results. Despite this, the Arab League has still agreed to nominate the US as mediator. Few people believe or accept the idea of a “two state solution” anymore. Both Palestinians and Israelis have rejected the US imposed concept by electing political organizations that reject the unrealistic “two state solution” pretense.
In case of the Palestinians, the US and its allies have refused to accept Hamas's democratic victory and have imposed a total war against the choice made by the Palestinian people. In Israel's case, the US is working hard to get Mahmoud Abbas to sign on to Netanyahu’s long proposed vision of a limited Palestinian state. In 2003 Netanyahu wrote in the Washington Post that “the Palestinians would be given all the powers needed to govern themselves but none of the powers that could threaten Israel. Put simply, the solution is full self-government for the Palestinians with vital security powers retained by Israel.”
Any Palestinian leader who signs an agreement based on the zionist vision of Netanyahu will, therefore, commit political suicide. At present no US puppet in Fatah will dare sign such an agreement because it will be rejected by the overwhelming majority of Palestinians.
The fact that a 2008 report by the Palestine Strategy Study Group (a project of leading intellectuals) called for a "reorientation" of PA strategy, moving away from negotiations towards "smart resistance” shows that Palestinians on all sides of the political spectrum realize that “negotiations” will not bring justice to their cause. One can, therfore, foresee that not only will this latest US initiative fail, but that this will turn out to be the last grand political gimmick the zionist regime is left with to continue its occupation of Palestine.
Once Netanyahu’s option of “a limited Palestinian state” fails the zionist regime will be exposed as politically bankrupt and at the end of its tortuous existence.
